FG’s N-POWER Applicants Protest At Lagos State Assembly

Based on the fact that the N-Power recruitment exercise have already commenced in other states, the Unemployed youths in Lagos state who did apply for the N-Power Recruitment 2016 and are waiting graciously for their names to be captured in the Federal Government’s N-POWER scheme, stormed the State House of Assembly in Alausa in protest of the non-commencement of the programme in Lagos State. Actually, the programme have already commenced in other states of the federation and hence the youths demanded the reason why that of Lagos state is still stalling. For those who may not know the exact purpose for the N-Power is a programme, should read up the summarized purpose here. Actually the programme was an idealogy of president Buhari designed to reduce youth unemployment in the country.  According to the Information from the Chief Whip, Mr Rotimi Abiru regarding the protest said that he was in the company of the Speaker of the House, Mr Mudashiru Obasa and other lawmakers when the protesters came protesting the non commencement of the scheme in Lagos state. Mr Abiru asserted that that the short-list for the N-Power scheme which was meant to reduce unemployment, actually was suppose to have commenced last month but as it where now, it has taken off in the state.
TheThe Chief Whip went further to explain the grievances of the protesters which indicated that since their counterparts in other states had started enjoying the benefits, why have the applicants in the state been deprived of their own entitlements?
Mr Tunde Braimoh, Chairman, House Committee on Information and Strategy who Reacted to a petition described the situation as “appalling, embarrassing and flabbergasting”. According Braimoh, “The Federal Government thought it fit to ameliorate the suffering of unemployed by introducing this programme. It is bad that some people stalled its commencement in the state.
“It is bad, we should do the needful by intervening, we need to even probe what is going on with the scheme.” Mrs Adefunmilayo Tejuosho, (APC- Mushin I) said the state had a very high population of unemployed young person who applied for the programme. The Speaker of the House, however cautioned the House to thread carefully on the matter, urging the Assembly to seek more information before taking a position. Obasa said, “We need thread carefully before we take step. however, I agree that the people concerned should be invited to brief the House as people’s representatives. We need information in that respect.“

I think what mr Mr Tunde Braimoh, Chairman, House Committee on Information and Strategy said is true. This scheme out to have started some time ago but due to the selfishness of some personalities in the state, it stalled for so long.
